Notes

Per Dr. Robert A. Herring, MD (1969), there were 7 Herring brothers who lived during the colonial period of easter NC in the 1700s.

Per Robert A. Herring, MD (1969), on p. 2... "the names of John Herring, Sr., and John Herring, Jr., appear in the index of wills and inventories of Isle of Wight County covering the period 1660-1730. One John Herring died in 1672 in Isle of Wight County; this could be the grandfather but not the father of John Herring of the Herring line, since his birth is recorded as in 1684, which, from all the information at hand, is correct." The name of John Herring's (1784-1760) father is unclear. Was the first John (1607-1672), grandfather of John (1784-1760) the John, Sr. mentioned during the 1660-1730 period, thus making the John, Jr. mentioned during this period the father of grandson John (1784-1760)? Or, was the John, Sr. mentioned the father of John (1784-1760), thus making him the John, Jr. mentioned during the 1660-1730) period?
