Per Robert A. Herring, MD (1969), p. 7, John Jr. and John Sr were named together on Bertie Co. land transactions... in Vol. XXII, p. 241, of the N. C. Colonial Records is a statement of receipt of account of one-half the arrears of 'His Majesty's quit rents' for Albemarle County, Bertie Precinct for the period September 29, 1729, to March, 1732, paid on June 12, 1735, on 609 acres of land by John Herring, Sr., and on 300 acres by John Herring, Jr. These holdings, without question, represent quit rent authorizations madeto John Herring and John Herring, Jr., at some previous dates."
