Benjamin's gravestone gives a birth date of Jan. 6, 1850. However, the 1860 Census gives Benjamin's age as 1 year, which would suggest a birth year of 1859, not 1850. It is likely that the 1850 birth yar on his gravestone is a mistake. Benjamin's mother, Mary Esther Waters Sutton, was 20 years of age on the 1860 Census. This squares with her gravestone age of 1840. If Benjamin were indeed born in 1850, then his mother would have been only 10 years of age when he was born, which would have been virtually impossible.
